Joan M. Drake, age 92, of Oxnard, CA., formerly of Reynolds County, MO., passed away October 24, 2010 at Oxnard.

She was born on November 13, 1917 in San Antonio, TX., daughter of the late "Hal" Harry Maurice Davenport & Mary Davenport.

Mrs. Drake attended Washington University in St. Louis, MO. She worked for the St. Louis Post Dispatch as a clothing artist and later became a stylist for different salons. She later went into the nursing profession and worked for 30 years as a registered nurse.

She belonged to the Secular Franciscan Order and was a member of the Santa Clara Parish in Oxnard, CA.
She was united in marriage to Edwin B.Thurman -second time listed as- as Elvin Thurman in AR.
She was united in marriage to George Cash Groner
She was united in marriage to Sidney Drake. He preceded her in death.

Her hobby was restoring model T fords. She went to junk yards looking for parts to restore the cars.

Survivors include one daughter, Marie Thurman-Vann of Hot Springs Village, AR.; one son, George Gerard Groner of San Antonio, TX; 3 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held on October 31 at the Santa Clara Church in Oxnard, CA. A private burial will take place in the Redford Memorial Cemetery, Redford, MO.
