He lived at 4 Elm Tree Terrace, Spring Close, Old Lenton, aged 54. Husband of Ada Armes. Died at Co-operative Bakery, Meadow Lane, Nottingham.


On the night of 8th and morning of the 9th May, 1941 the German Luftwaffe targeted Nottingham City with more than 100 bombers dropping over 1,100 high explosive bombs killing 159 people.

The areas of Sneinton, Carlton, Colwick and West Bridgford were most affected,

a direct hit to the Co-op bakery on Meadow Lane killed 48 employees and one member of the Home Guard.
