Sunset Wedding On High Mountain Top
Nuptials of Miss Tupper and Alfred Galpin Wilkes on Overlook in Catskills
Miss Allene Pender Tupper, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. H. Allen Tupper of Grammercy Park, New York City and Alfred Galpin Wilkes of Los Angeles, California, will be married at sunset this evening in the Overlook Mountain House, on the highest residence portion of the Catskills. From the verandas of the dwelling can be seen the Hudson River and portions of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Dr. Tupper owns the Overlook, which he bought about two years ago. Miss Tupper's father, who is to perform the ceremony, is pastor of the Fifteenth Street Baptist Church, Brooklyn. The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Judge W.A. Wilkes of Los Angeles and is Vice-President of the Commoners of America Insurance Co. of that city. A link connecting Miss Tupper and Mr. Wilkes with the past was the strong friendship existing years ago in England between their respective grandfathers, who afterward came to this country, one settling in New England the other in North Carolina. While on a visit to California, Miss Tupper, representing the southern branch, met Mr. Wilkes, her distant cousin, at the residence of Colonel Alfred Reynolds. Out of that meeting the coming marriage is to result. Both are of kin to Martin Farquhar Tupper, as well as to Sir Richard Tupper of Canada. Following the wedding will be an old-fashioned Virginia supper, at which the heart-shaped menu cards will bear the Tupper crest, which is 200 years old.The festivities are to conclude with a cotillion.

Wife Of Oil Man Resists Divorce
Mrs. Allene Tupper Wilkes Charges Desertion and Claims Share of Property
Answering a charge of desertion with a like accusation, Mrs. Allene Tupper Wilkes indicated yesterday that she would not permit her husband, Alfred G. Wilkes, a prominent oil operator of this state, to procure his freedom without a contest. Her answer and cross complaint denies that she was married to the plaintiff In New York City, September 17, 1908, as he alleged, but admits having been married to him the day previous at Woodstock, New York. In August 1909, he deserted her in New York, she says and came to California. Alleging that he is worth more than $250,000, she asks for $1,000 counsel fees, $250 court costs and $200 a month alimony, together with a division of considerable community property, the exact amount and location of which she says she cannot state. William H. Gorrill, attorney for the husband, denied last night that his client was a wealthy man. Wilkes has interests in the oilfields of this state and-has made his home in Los Angeles for many years, said Gorrill. If these properties develop he may make a fortune, but their value is only potential as yet. Mrs. Wilkes is represented by E.S. Page of Oakland.
