Civil War Union Army Officer. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company K, 8th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry on October 3, 1861. He served with the until until February 26, 1862, when he was honorably discharged. He enlisted in 3rd United States Regular Cavalry on April 1, 1862, and was mustered in as a Sergeant in Company G. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on February 19, 1863, and served in that rank through the end of the war. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on September 6, 1865, and to Captain in July 1868. He was honorably discharged as a Supernumerary in January 1871.
