Kay was the next to the youngest child of Spencer and Sara Koger, raised in the rolling hills of the Cumberlands, north of Jamestown, Tenn. She was a retired cosmetologist in Oak Ridge and was married to Dwight "Blackie" Madewell, who passed away some 19 years ago.
Kay is survived by her brother, Elmer Koger of Muncie, Ind.; her son, Bobby of Clinton; grandchildren, Mike and his wife, Elodie, Monica and her husband, Charles, Melanie and her husband, Scott, and Mark and his wife Candice; six great-grandchildren, Sullivan, Summer, Sawyer, Keenan, Jordan and Noah; sister-in-law, Gladys Madewell, of Toledo, Ohio; and many, many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Oak Ridge.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 5 to 6 p.m., at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge followed by a "celebration of her life" service at 6 p.m. Interment will be Wednesday morning, 10 a.m., at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, next to her husband.
