She was born January 9, 1921, in Sassuolo, Italy, a daughter of the late Attilio and Albertina Campani Bertugli.
On October 4, 1941, she married Frank R. Trumka, who died April 9, 1999.
Mrs. Trumka was a community activist who worked for better health care for disabled veterans and helped the elderly prepare their taxes and secure benefits.
She was a former president of Nemacolin Inc. and a state officer with the Ladies Cootiettes of the Veterans of Foreign War. She was a strong supporter of all unions and an associate member of United Mine Workers of America.
Mrs. Trumka was a devout Catholic and attended Our Lady of Consolation Church in Nemacolin, where she served as a lector, choir member and rosary society member. She also was a Catholic Daughter of America.
Surviving are two children, Frances Szallar and husband Alex of McKees Rocks and Richard Trumka and wife Barbara of Potomac, Md.; four grandchildren, Gregory Szallar (Tawnda), Bryan Szallar, Shawn Szallar (Kathryn) and Richard T. Trumka Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Alec, Coleton, Bronson, Alley Frances, McKenzie and Madison Szallar; two sisters, Esther Kovach and husband Victor of Rices Landing and Anita Dukate of Rices Landing; a brother, Remo Bertugli of Rices Landing; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a sister, Erma Mosier.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8:30 to 9:15 a.m., the time of service, Saturday, December 12, in Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Marcellus Roman Catholic Church, Jefferson, with the Rev. John Bauer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimers Foundation in her memory.
