John Newton Marshall, 81, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at his home in Whitesboro, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Martin Oaks Cemetery in Lewisville, Texas, with the Rev. Tim Whiting officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. He was born on Sept. 7, 1928, in Savanna, to John and Leola (Garvin) Marshall. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked in construction. He enjoyed dancing. He was of the Baptist faith and was a coon hunter. Survivors include his children, Glenn Marshall and wife, Cathy, of McAlester, Michael Marshall and wife, Debbie, of Tulsa, Johna McBee and husband, Kirk, of Whitesboro, Texas, Charlotte Suter and husband, Ralph, of Krebs, Carol Ann Sowell and husband, Jeff, of Oak Point, and Pamela Landers and husband, Gene, Sr., of Whitesboro, Texas. And, 14 grandchildren, Clinton Marshall, Jennifer Polluck, Brandi Thornton, Carrie Marshall, Stacia McBee, Melissa Francis, Sandy Ellis, Wendy Montgomery, Gene Ray Landers Jr., Beau Landers, Trey Landers, Kade Landers, Ben Donakey and Andy Donakey, and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters; his wife, Katherine Marshall; a son, Alvin "Buddy" Marshall, and a grandson, Gabriel "Shawn" Marshall.
