Mrs. Garner had been a cook at Early Learning Day Care Center in Claxton for several years.
A native of Anderson County, Mrs. Garner was a member of Longfield Baptist Church in Lake City where she had been a Sunday School teacher for many years. Before moving to Clinton 22 years ago, she had lived in Heiskell.
Mrs. Garner enjoyed crocheting, sewing, raising vegetables, and canning. She also enjoyed raising flowers.
Her father, Ed Hackney, and a brother, Bobby Hackney, died earlier.
Mrs. Garner is survived by her husband of 41 years, James Leroy Garner; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Patsy Garner of Clinton, Stanley and Jo Garner of Claxton, and Jeff and Lavone Garner of Knoxville; and six daughters ans sons-in-law, Patricia and Bobby Carroll, Aline and Mike Nelson, Melinda and Dallas Martin, all of Clinton, Sharon and Ronnie Gaus, Judy and Darrell Metcalf, all of Claxton, and Sheila and Roger Bardill Virginia Beach, Va.
She is also survived by her mother, Maude Hackney of Heiskell; five sisters, Karen Burnette, Joyce Snyder and Debra Giles, all of Clinton, Loretta Dew of Heiskell and Katherine Bills of Claxton; three brothers, Charles Buck Hackney of Torrence, Ca., Hubell Hackney and Tommy Hackney, both of Heiskell; 19 Grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and by several nieces and nephews.
Ther funeral was to be held at 2 pm today, Oct. 9, in the chapel of Tennessee Valley Funeral Home in Claxton with the Rev. Ronald Guthrie, the Rev. Mack Smith and the Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Burial was to be in the Tennessee Valley Memory Gardens. (now known as Woodhaven Memorial Gardens)
