Rev. G.F. & E.R.
Montgomery
Died
Aug. 2, 1885
Æ 20 Y'rs
On the day William died he was 20 years old, and Aetatis (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of his Age, etc.) 21. However, by the late 1800s the meaning of the symbol "Æ" for the Latin term Aetatis had long been forgotten, and assumed to have meant one's chronological "age."
