Doris Ridge, 87, of Steele, Mo., died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at National HealthCare in Kennett.
Born Sept. 5, 1921, in Steele, daughter of the late James Pankney Weaver and Fannie Jackson Weaver, she was a homemaker, loved to cook and make a garden, and preserved the vegetables she raised. She was a member of the Denton Assembly of God Church, and enjoyed attending as much as she could. She loved reading the Bible.

On Dec. 23, 1939, in Caruthersville, Mo., she married John M. "Doc" Ridge, who survives. They were happily married for almost 70 years.

Survivors include her husband, J.M. Ridge, of Steele; one son, Morris Ridge and wife, Annetta, of Steele; one daughter, Rebecca Goodrich and husband, Tom, of Kennett; four grandsons, Erwin Ridge, Reginald Walker, John Ridge and Richard Walker; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dora Willy, of Arnold, Mo., and other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Weaver and seven sisters, Ethel Cunningham, Artie Lawson, Hazel Ridge, Emily Loveless, Dorothy Tuberville, Jewell Austill and Velda Williams.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., today, Tuesday, April 21, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with Rev. Fred Pritchett officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Erwin Ridge, John Ridge, Reginald Walker, Richard Walker, Tyler Ridge and Cleidus White.
