Paul Richard Peters, 80, passed away peacefully February 19, 2009 in American Fork, Utah. He was born Nov 25, 1928 in American Fork to James Edward and Eliza Chipman Peters. He was the youngest of 11 children and the 5th generation of founding father, Stephen Chipman, of the city of American Fork.
He married Carol Boley in 1947, they later divorced. He married Elaine Herman November 1, 1955 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were married 53 years.
Paul enjoyed working. He was a local businessman and spent the last 20 years as a building inspector of A.F. City where he retired in 2004 at the age of 76. He loved the city of Am. Fork and was a volunteer fireman for 43 years, 21 years spent as Fire Chief. He thoroughly loved the men he associated with. He also loved thoroughbred horses that he and his brothers raised and raced. That was the highlight of their summers. As a young man he was a great athlete lettering in football, basketball, track, and baseball. Scouts from the major leagues were also looking at him to play baseball for the New York Yankees. He also took great joy in his grandchildren, who dubbed his nickname "grumpy."
He is survived by his wife Elaine, 3 sons, 1 daughter, Gary Richard Herbert (Jeanette) of Orem, Paul Gordon Peters of Am. Fork, Shaun Clark Peters of Orem, and Kathy (Dan) Loveland of Am. Fork. 13 Grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. Siblings Howard Peters of Am. Fork, Arlene Ganung (Carl) of Sandy, and Millie Leary of San Francisco, CA.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 11 am in the Am. Fork 26th Ward, 965 N 60 E. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm in the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 E 100 N, Am. Fork and Wednesday at the church form 9:45-10:45 am prior to the services. Interment, Am. Fork Cemetery.
