Irving E. Ackerman, 94, of Belvidere, IL died late Friday evening, May 2, 2008 in Maple Crest Nursing Home in Belvidere. Irving was born April 26, 1914 in Belvidere, the son of Emil and Emma (Frenck) Ackerman. He married Mary Norene Bontjes on October 20, 1934 in Rockford. Irving spent his whole life taking care of his farm and land. He was a member of the Winnebago County Farm Bureau. He and Norene belonged to several card clubs and he enjoyed collecting Ford Tractors. Irving was a member of Third Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Norene; children, Joyce (Doug) Pearse of Rockford, Donald (Lynn) Ackerman of Viroqua, WI, Wayne Ackerman of Trophy Club, TX, Delores (Delbert) Dobler of Machesney Park, Larry (Pam) Ackerman of Rockford; son in-law, Les Rhode of Belvidere; sister, Eileen Bontjes of Byron; brother, John Ackerman of Belvidere. Irving is the proud grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather of Thirty-five. He was predeceased by his parents, daughter, Marilyn Rhode; grandsons, Anthony and Rick; sisters, Hazel, Esther, Violet; brother, Roy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in Third Presbyterian Church, 1221 Custer Avenue, Rockford, IL with Rev. Dr. Murray Hanson, officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 A.M. Wednesday at the church.
