MORRILL - James Robert Wilkinson, 91, of Morrill passed away, Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Western Nebraska Veterans Home, after a relatively short illness.
His funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Brad Gustafson officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering with military honors by the Nebraska National Guard. A memorial has been established to the Festival of Hope. Pallbearers will be Jim's sons and grandsons. A family luncheon will follow at the First Presbyterian Church.
Jim was born on Oct. 19, 1917. He was one of seven children born to Felix and Jessie Wilkinson of Banner County. Jim attended school in Kimball and lived in a dormitory attending Harrisburg school. Jim graduated from Harrisburg High School. Jim married Jessie Leona Grant on Aug. 7, 1938. Jim joined the Army Air Corp during WWII. Flying and serving his country were a great source of pride and joy. Jessie worked as a secretary, supporting herself so she and Jim could be together wherever he was stationed. Jim and Jessie returned to Morrill in February of 1946, where they operated a Gamble's store for 27 years, later moving to a farm/ranch three miles northwest of Morrill. Hard work and family were very important to Jim. His wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always first in his thoughts and he had a deep pride in them.
Jim is survived by his two sons, Jim D. (Jeannie) Wilkinson of Morrill and Edwin (Maureen Drummond) Wilkinson of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandsons, Jason (Julie) Wilkinson of Morrill, Jarod (DeAnna) Wilkinson of Lincoln, Todd (Dayle) Wilkinson of Phoenix, and Troy (Deanna) Wilkinson of Phoenix; ten grandchildren, Jessica and Justine Wilkinson, Martha and Molly Wilkinson, Taylor Wilkinson, Issac, Sierra, Nicole, Peyton and Haley Wilkinson; and sister-in-law, Maxine Todd of Phoenix.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Jessie; brothers, Felix "Bud" and Marion; and sisters, Elizabeth Johnson, Marjorie Stauffer, Phyllis McKillip and Edris Alvestad.
