6. Nellie Cashman
This is a new granite plaque beside the Sisters of St. Ann plot. The grave is the favourite of many people who are intrigued by its interesting epitaph.
1845-1925

"The Miner's Angel", nurse and gold prospector
The name Nellie Cashman was synonymous with warmth and generosity in mining camps from Mexico to Alaska.
Nellie was born in Ireland about 1850 and came to the US with her family in 1860. She ran restaurants and boarding houses, always willing to nurse sick miners and lend a helping hand.
She travelled to the Klondike mining camps where she worked as a cook and was still staking gold claims until her eighties. She came to Victoria in 1924 and was looked after by the Sisters of St. Ann until her death in 1925. Nellie Cashman was featured on a US postage stamp.
