Marie Margaret Nelson, daughter of Martin and Gena Hansen, was born November 28, 1904, east of Ruthven, Iowa. She graduated from Lake Center and then attended Nursing School in Chamberlain, South Dakota.
On January 17, 1934, Marie married Alfred (Pat) Nelson in Spencer, Iowa.
Marie was employed as an R.N. at the Iowa Sanitarium in Nevada, Iowa. She later worked at the Spencer Hospital and Home Care Nursing. Marie also worked at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg retiring in December 1964.
Marie was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, the Dorcas Society and Farm Bureau Women's Club.
Marie died Tuesday, February 4, 1997, at the Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven, Iowa, at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Benjamin; one sister; and eight brothers.
She is survived by her children, William Nelson of Emmetsburg, IA, Allen Johnson of Oregon, Alverna Palmer of Glendale, AZ and Roger Nelson of Terril, IA; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a sister, Evaline Nelsen of Ruthven, IA; as well as many other relatives and friends.
