Artist who painted the Visions of Revelation.

About The Artist And Her Work. . . .

Mrs. Alyce M. Hart lived in Lamesa, Texas, where she was a careful student of her Bible. She attended the Downtown Church of Christ where she was a member. The paintings at first were not done with the intention of having them published, or with the intent of going beyond the realm of family and friends. As the project developed from 1955 to 1960, many individuals and groups asked to see the paintings and hear Mrs. Hart's "commentary" ... her reasons for the paintings being done as they were. These comments were printed in a small booklet in 1960 in Lubbock, Texas. At first Mrs. Hart took the original paintings for display to church organizations and study groups, then she began to meet the requests by furnishing colored slides at cost to her ever-widening audience. Star Bible Publications began offering the slides in their catalogs in 1976. With the publication of the book the painted reproductions appeared with the biblical text (King James Version) on which each picture was based, along with Mrs. Hart's explanation of her approach to the painting. The book is not a biblical commentary or a concordance. It does not present the viewpoint of any particular church or denomination. Most of the original oil paintings were sold at various auctions, flea markets, etc. , and today no complete set exists. The largest collection (about 25) is in the hands of Lubbock Christian University, and a few single originals are held as treasures by special friends. Mrs. Hart passed from this life on August 10, 1982. It was her intention to print these visions in full color in a book in the early 1960's soon after the work was completed, but it has taken over thirty-five years for her dream to become a reality ... too late for her to see. - Alvin Jennings, August, 1996
