She was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a daughter of the late Mark and Jenny Henson Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Ward. Barbara was a member of Highland Baptist Church and a 1981 graduate of Cecil's Business College.
She is survived by two sons, Darrell Ward of Leicester, and Derrick Ward and his wife, Shannon, of Leicester; two daughters, Camilla Cole and her husband, Roger, of Weaverville, and Kim Ledford and her husband, Harold, of Leicester; three sisters, Viola Dean, Lela Porche, and Mary Lou Shook all of Leicester; one brother, Jack Hawkins of Candler; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Truman Revis and Preacher Clarence Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery.
