He married 2nd Jean Mae Wiswell in Sonora, Mexico in 1910 just after divorcing his first wife. Jean shot herself in 1912.

William was on trial in May 1908 for shooting Charlotte Noyes in Los Angeles. The jury was deadlocked, a mistrial was declared and he was not tried again.

During the trial a statement was made about William being injured six years ago and was nursed by his wife, who was not named.
