WEST WEBER - Elmer H. Penman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away Monday, February 18, 2002 at the age of 95, surrounded by loving family.

Elmer was born August 20, 1906 in West Weber, a son of Henry and Annie G. Penman. He was a lifelong resident of West Weber and attended Weber County Schools. He learned at an early age the value of hard work, an ethic that was practiced throughout his life and instilled in his family.

On March 16, 1932, he married Lavon Hadley in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they built their home and raised their family working side by side.

Elmer was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to the Northern States Mission from February 1928 to March 1930, without purse or script. He continued faithfully in many church callings throughout his life.

Elmer was a farm machinery mechanic by profession and worked for Wilkinson Farm Service, Ogden Implement, Gemco Beet Harvester and Maw Equipment from where he retired at age 80 after 53 years.

He served as a 4-H Leader for over 40 years where he received numerous awards, including "Outstanding 4-H Alumni Teacher and Volunteer".

Elmer took great pride in his yard and beautiful garden. He grew prize winning vegetables which he freely shared with family, friends and neighbors. He especially enjoyed growing bountiful crops of peanuts and always carried some with him to give away. He was affectionately known by many as "The Peanut Man". He loved his community and could always be found providing service where needed. Elmer was a great example of courage, faith, strength and humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Lavon, of West Weber; two sons, Earl (Linna) Penman, West Weber; Gary Penman, Littleton, Colo.; his daughter-in-law, Patty Penman Meacham, St. George; 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
