Funeral services for Henry E. Childs of Willamina will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, in the Sheridan Nazarene Church. The Revs. Ralph Carr and Dick Barnett will officiate.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 10-11, in the chapel at Macy & Son Funeral Directors. Interment will be in Greencrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Sheridan.
Mr. Childs died from natural causes at Tillamook County General Hospital on Monday, April 7, 2008. He was 61.
Born in Shreveport, La., on May 30, 1946, he was the son of Otha Ellis and Edna Mae (Liles) Childs. He grew up in Haughton, La. After graduation, he attended college in Arkansas on a track scholarship, later transferring to NW Louisiana State and then to Louisiana Tech.
He married Marcelle Taylor on June 16, 1967, in Haughton. He worked at Sperry Rand Army Ammunitions Plant.
He moved to Willamina in 1969. He went to work at US Plywood in Willamina, becoming the business agent for the union at the company. When the mill shut down in the mid 1980s, he went to truck driving school.
Then he went to work driving a truck for United Agriculture Products for 14 years. He went on to work for Cascade Columbia Distribution in Tualatin, followed by Western Mountain Transport in Aurora and most recently for Fallon Logging in Tillamook.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and carpentry. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Childs is survived by two sons, Kevin of Willamina and Brad of Canon City, Colo.; a daughter, Malinda Burk of Sheridan; two brothers, Richard of Doyline, La., and Loyd of Sam Rayburn, Texas; a half-brother, Roy Childs of Mississippi; a sister, Lorece Smith of Lake Bistineau, La.; a half-sister, Eldine Woods of Mississippi; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
