She was born in Los Angeles, attended Beverley Hill Catholic School, UCLA and The New School. Laura spent 32 years at Bill Blass, starting as a model and working her way up to run Blass Sport. She worked one year for Oscar de la Renta. In her late fifties, she changed careers to become an interior designer. She worked for Dorothy Draper and then started her own design company LMID. Her work was known for its clean exceptional style, elegance and comfort. Her father was actor Ricardo Montalban, and her mother Georgiana had been an actress and model. Her aunts were actresses Loretta Young, Sally Blane and Polly Ann Young. Her uncle was Carlos Montalban and her grandmother was Gladys Royal Belzer, an interior designer for numerous Hollywood stars. Laura loved New York and lived at her apartment on 57th Street for over 40 years. She was a devout Catholic and attended St. John the Evangelist Church.
She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Georgiana and Nick Viest, sister and brother-in-law Anita and Gil Smith, her niece Lydia Smith, brother and sister-in-law, Mark Montalban and Stephanie Zachary, and their children Lauren and Alex, brother and sister-in-law Victor Montalban and Joan, and his children Brian and Deanna, and her friends who miss their beautiful, stylish and elegant friend. There will be a private mass held for her with close friends and family.
Note: She married a French jewelry designer of Armenian extract Joseph Antoine Mardirossian in New York City in 1969 at St. John's the Evangelist R.C. Church at 55th St & 2nd ave. Antoine is not mentioned in her obituary; their daughter is Georgiana Mardirossian born in NYC in 1972. Georgiana married Nicholas Dusan Viest in NYC in December 2000 .
