Estella Grace Greig was born on March 8, 1892, in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Charles David and Lois Amanda Chapman Greig.

Estella taught 2nd and 3rd grades to the settlers in the Rosebud Territory in Dallas, South Dakota, from 1910 to 1918. She played the piano to accompany school dramas.

Estella married Melvin J. Barr, the brother of her co-teacher and close lifetime friend, Anna Maude "Mamie" Barr, on August 9, 1918, in Storm Lake, Buena Vista County, Iowa. Mamie always called her "Greig."

The 1920 census shows Melvin and Estella residing in Newport News, Virginia. By the 1930 census, they had moved to Richmond, Virginia, where they remained for several decades. Their longtime residence was 5921-A Brookfield Rd., Richmond, Virginia.

Children:
Robert "Bobby" Barr, who lived in Winter Haven, Florida, as an adult.

Greig was an expert knitter.

After her husband's passing, Estella moved to the Maranatha
Retirement Home, 255 E. Main St., Lake Alfred, Florida, to be near her son, Bobby.
