OBITUARY
Life's book, its pages marked with sunshine and shadow, tears and happy laughter and a great deal of labor, performed cheerfully to keep a home for a large group of children entrusted to her care and keeping, came to a close, May 24, 1946 for Mrs. David A Fowler.
She had been confined to her bed since March and the last few weeks of her life were spend at the Waurika hospital where she had every care from doctors and nurses and where her daughter, Helen, Mrs. Richard Elville, was with her constantly.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Baptist church in Waurika conducted by the pastor, Rev. Harold McGlamery, assisted by Rev. G. Lyle Smith, a family friend of a good many years standing. Interment was in the family plot in the Waurika cemetery where she sleeps with other loved ones.
Belle Cole was born Feb 9, 1871, at Osceola, Missouri. At the age of 20 she came with her parents to Blossom Prairie, Texas and lived there for several years. It was there she married Dick Nowell and they were the parents of five children, three of who survive: Mrs. Ella Roberts, Herlong, California; Mrs. T. A. Price, Rome, Georgia; and Mrs. Ernest Townsend, Millerton, Oklahoma.
Mr. Nowell died in Texas and his widow brought her children and came to Valliant, where she was married in 1907 to David A. Fowler, who passed away July 28, 1940. They were the parents of four children, three of who survive:
-Lee Tot, (Mrs. W. G. Barnett), Celeste, Texas;
-David M. (Buster) Fowler, Breen, Colorado (La Plata Co.)
-Helen (Mrs. Elville) who had made here home in Waurika since 1939.
Mr. Fowler also had children by a former marriage:
-Bill Fowler of Waurika,
-Ralph (Rafe) Fowler of Fort Worth, Texas
-Mrs. Luella Gentry, Redding, Colorado
All of them were mothered by "Grandma" Fowler, as was also Jane Hooper, who lived with her grandmother from the time she was six months old until Mrs. Fowler's death.
Mrs. Fowler, who had been almost a lifelong member of the Baptist church, had no yearning for a career other than that of a devoted wife, mother and a good neighbor and to that end all her time and thought were directed. She reaped the benefits of the former in the love her children held for her. Mrs. Elville came home to be with her mother almost constantly for the past four years, giving her every care and attention, and other members of the large family came frequently.
Attending the funeral services from out-of-town were the following relatives:
-Mrs. T. A. Price, Rome, Georgia
-Ralph F. Fowler, Fort Worth, Texas
-Mr. and Mrs. Willie "Buster "Scott, Broken Bow, Oklahoma
-Mrs. Cora Cole and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cole, Soper, Oklahoma
-Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Fowler, Oklahoma City
-John David Hooper, Valliant, Oklahoma
-Mr. and Mrs. Barnett and son, Celeste, Texas
-Sgt Elville, stationed at Briggs Field, Texas
