Rose Marie Vilardo Valenti, 83, passed away surrounded by her family at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, La on September 21, 2023.

Rose Marie was born March 18, 1940, to the late Joseph and Bessie Parino Vilardo. Her family was well-known in Independence, LA for "Vilardo's Grocery Store." They served the small community, and then she came to meet her one true love, dancing.

She loved dancing. This is how she met Peter Joseph Valenti, who became her husband of 63 years. She was a homemaker and made sure to take care of her husband and family. Rose Marie was full of energy, quick to help anyone, and loved telling stories. Her smile was contagious, but her dance moves would grab anyone's attention on the dance floor. Rose Marie, also known as the best mawmaw ever, was fearless, strong, and would protect her family at any cost. She was the rock of the family, and her stories will forever be held close to their heart.

Rose will be greatly missed by her husband Pete. She is also survived by her daughter, Denise Accardo; granddaughters, Alexis Maria Accardo and Tabitha Lynn Accardo; and great-grandchildren, Mia Lanai Austin and Axl Pierce Watkins.

In addition to her parents, Rose is preceded in death by her brother Salvadore Vilardo.

Visitation will be at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 North Morrison Boulevard Sunday, September 24, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday, September 25, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Holy Ghost Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Rose Memorial Park.
