Genevieve grew up in Albuquerque and lived in Dixon, NM and Santa Cruz California. She was forever searching for her second born son David Joseph Miera who disappeared Jan. 10, 1970, she had left him in the care of her then boyfriend LG Zerfas. He claimed to have given the child away, they then went to California and separated there.

Leon Zerfas was on and off with two girlfriend's he had gotten pregnant and lived intermittently with one and then the other. On or around November of 1969 Zerfas left Dixon and united with the other girlfriend and traveled with her and their 7 month old son in her truck to Florida. There was domestic abuse and it escalated while they were in Florida his girlfriend and child were both injured, his child sustained severe head trauma and was later hospitalized for a long time. Leon reportedly stole the that girlfriend's truck before showing up in Dixon at Genie's home a day or so after the 1970 New Year.

David lived with his mom Genie Miera and a long-term live-in boyfriend Leon Zerfas who was father to their unborn daughter due in January. They lived in the Canoncito area up on a mountain embankment a bit north of the town of Dixon, Rio Arriba County, New Mexico across the road from a commune during the hippie movement of the late 1960's. They had no transportation so when Genie went into labor she was taken to the Embudo Hospital some miles near Dixon, New Mexico by her sister and her brother-in-law who had a truck and lived across the way. Genie left David in the care of Zerfas. Genie had a difficult birth and had to stay a few days at the hospital. The following day or so Genie waved at David in his new Christmas cloths through the glass window from the Embudo, hospital with Zerfas in the parking lot, it was the last time she said she saw David, on or about January 11, 1970. Zerfas claimed to have given David away to some hippies who lived in a bus named Philips or Phelps. On another occasion Zerfas told Genie that his sister came up from Mexico and took David temporarily, only to give her a break while she recovered and took care of their newborn baby daughter.

As time passed Genie began to wonder where was this sister and or where were the bus people. What made matters worse was that she and her newborn were victims of domestic abuse by Zerfas. In August of 1970 she accompanied Zerfas to Calif where she met his sister Diana, but she did not have her son David. A short time later Genie and her newborn daughter got safely away from Zerfas.

In January of 1971 Genie's went to Albuquerque and filed David's missing child report with the Albuquerque city police. Time would pass and Genevive tried to pressure the police to help her, and some did, but others to no avail as there were no resources for missing children back then, so David's cold case gathered dust. Days turned into months and months into years, but Genie never gave up, her dying wish was to find David. After Genie tragically and suddenly passed away her daughter got David's case re-opened and it remains so. If you know anything about David's whereabouts, please contact the State police Investigations unit of Rio Arriba, thank you.
