Byron D. Roff, 66, of VanHornesville, New York, passed away on Thursday morning, December 9, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York after being stricken with heart complications Tuesday.

He was born in Yonkers, New York and was the son of the late, Raymond and Lucylle (Kopp) Roff. Byron was educated at Salesian High School and graduated with the Class of 1973. He furthered his studies at Iona College where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Science in Marketing Management in 1977, and obtained his Master's in Education in 1993.

Byron was formerly employed as a teacher at various high schools, the New York State Historical Association, and Scarsdale New York Library. He was presently working as a legal assistant at Sullivan & Snyder Law in Dolgeville, New York and had been for the last nine years.

He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Unity of Phoenix Church in Arizona.

On May 27, 2010, Byron was united in marriage to his long-time partner, Gerard J. Snyder in Provincetown, MA. The couple were married for 11 years and shared a union of 17 years together.

Byron was a member of the Sons of American Revolution (SAR), Oriskany Chapter (SAR), Saratoga Battle (SAR) and the Herkimer County Historical Society.

He loved animals and would contribute to animal organizations whenever they presented need. He also enjoyed genealogy, traveling to various places and was looking forward to his upcoming trip to Arizona. Byron was a friendly and familiar face to many people in Dolgeville where you would see him running errands on Main Street, stopping at many of the businesses to patronize local shops and visit with the owners, workers, and customers. He was always interested in your life and your loved ones, remembering your name, their name and all events going on with your life. Byron was a friend to many extending across the United States. A loving husband, son, and friend, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Byron is survived by his beloved husband, Gerard J. Snyder of VanHornesville, NY; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jeannine Mannix and her husband, James of Clifton Park, NY, and William Snyder and his wife, Sharon of Port St. Lucie, FL; special close friends, Frank J. Donatone of Eastchester, NY, Mark Sperber of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jane H. Klump of VanHornesville, NY, Shirley Shibley of Salisbury, NY, Lorrie Mott of Caroga Lake, NY, and Greg Toczko of Dolgeville, NY; several extended family members and many friends near and far.

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond E. and Lucylle M. Roff, a brother, Allen C. Roff and a sister, Renee (Pat) Beth Roff.

A time of remembrance will be held with a Celebration of Life at a time and place to be announced in January of 2022. An announcement will be made when services are complete. Byron is being cared for by his family friends .
He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, New York at the convenience of the family.
