Obituary for Walter John Sherman
Walter John Sherman, 86, of Cornwall Manor, Lebanon County, PA formerly of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away on October 12, 2021 of Congestive Heart Failure. Born in Nyack, NY on February 26, 1935, he was the son of the late Albert A. and Rosemary B. Sherman. He was the husband of Lyn Burnett Sherman.
Walter attended Holy Trinity Schools in Westfield, NJ and graduated in 1954 from Oratory Prep in Summit, NJ. He served in the United States Marine Corps from September 1954 to September 1957. The first half of his business career was in consumer finance and banking. The second half was in residential real estate from sales to manger to Regional Vice President at Weichert Realtors, NJ.
In 1990, Walter and wife Lyn retired to Charlottesville, VA area. He enjoyed traveling and the golf course where he spent cherished time with his wife, Lyn, dear friends and playing partners. However, his primary joy was being a loving husband, spending time with his four children and an attentive Grandpa to nine grandchildren. Walter currently resided at Cornwall Manor Retirement Community in Cornwall, PA. He was a member of the Cornwall United Methodist Church.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Lyn; his daughter, Catherine Sherman; son, Wayne Burnett, husband of Donna and grandchildren, Matthew, Allison and Brooke; daughter, Debbie Lawson, wife of Chet and grandchildren, Brody, Mitchell and Tatum; son, Michael Burnett and grandchildren, Lauryn Ingram, wife of Walter, Zachary and Adam. He is also survived by brothers, Mark Sherman, William Sherman and family; sisters, Ann, wife of Albert Fox and family and Mary Rose, wife of Charles Van Fleet and family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made in Walter's memory to the Cornwall Manor Benevolent Fund, PO Box 125, Cornwall, PA 17016 or to the Cornwall United Methodist Church, PO Box 687, Cornwall, PA 17016.
