Veteran, U.S. Air Force.

Son of Marvin Guy Abbott and Grace Irene Blaufus. He was the father of two children. His wife and one child survive. His son, Donald Ray Abbott (1962-2013), predeceased him.Raymond Neil Abbott, 80, of Kelso passed away Aug. 3, 2015, at home.

He was born June 18, 1935, in Oshkosh, Neb., to Marvin and Grace (Blaufas) Abbott. He served four years in the Air Force and moved to the local area 57 years ago.

He married Debra JoAnn Johnsey in Kelso March 28, 1959.

Ray was a mechanic for Weyerhaeuser Pulp & Paper for 38 years, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed camping with family and friends and was a huge football fan, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Huskies. Ray was patient, easygoing and honest. Because he was a man of his word, some called him "Honest Abe," due in part to his appearance.

Abbott; a daughter, Debra Revis; a daughter-in-law, Sheri Abbott; two grandsons, Brandon Wolters and Randy Abbott; a brother, Bill Abbott; two brothers-in-law, Leo Johnsey and Stan Taylor; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Abbott and Bonna Johnsey; and family friend Pam Masters, whom Ray loved like a daughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donald Abbott; a son-in-law, Bud Revis; three brothers, Dick, Donald and Jerry Abbott; and a sister, Carol Swan.

A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 at Faith Family Christian Center, 2203 38th Ave., in Longview. A reception will follow.

Contributions in Ray's name may be made to the Community Home Health & Hospice.
