Hugh Lester Heath. It seems he was born in the summer months of 1885 in Limerick, Ireland, to Charles Ernest, b. 1854 at Bucknell in Staffordshire, England, and Eleanor (nee Russell; b. ca. 1861 in Ireland) Heath, who had married in the third quarter of 1884 in Limerick, Ireland. He had three known sisters; Eileen Russell, b. 1886, Vera E., b. 1887, and Rachel Millicent, b. 1901. In 1901, he lived as a boarder in the household of a Mr. William S. Lee at Effingham Crescent in the parish of St. Mary the Virgin in Dover, Kent. He was listed as a pupil. He left England in 1904 and came to St. John, New Brunswick, in June 1904 on the steamer Lake Manitoba. He then lived in Canada for a time. He married Ida May Mitchell on 6 October 1908 in Toronto, and Mr. Heath was described as a clerk who had not been married before. He and his wife May left Canada 27 January 1909 and came to the USA, entering the country at Port Huron, Michigan. Mr. Heath was 5’10” tall, had a dark complexion, black hair and brown eyes. He was able to read and write. In 1910, he and his wife lived at 188 East 64th Street in Chicago and he was listed as a bookkeeper in a real estate office. Their son John was not born at the time. Hugh Heath was going to England to visit his father, a general in the British army. He belonged to the Roman Catholic Church. He was 5’10”, had black hair and brown eyes. He was lost when the Empress of Ireland sank, together with his small son John.
