David Alton Barco of Portsmouth VA departed this earthly life Sunday afternoon December 27, 2020 surrounded by his wife, children, and family. He was the son of the late Oliver D. Barco, Sr. and Corine Riddick Barco. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Daniel Riddick, Dale Sylvester Barco and Oliver D. Barco, Jr.

David attended Chesapeake Public Schools and entered the workforce at an early age. In his younger years he made the decision to join the army, he then started work at the shipyard as a pipefitter. Soon after he was introduced to the world of plastering, where he found his first passion. He then began his own plastering company, David Barco Plastering, which was a successful business for the last 37 years. Along with plastering he also had a passion for riding motorcycles and drag racing.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Carla Barco; 2 daughters Denita Twine of Chesapeake, Va and Sheena Twine of Chesapeake, Va (Dorene Twine-Barco); 2 sons David Kelly of Chesapeake, Va and Elijah Kelly of Chesapeake, Va (Michele Kelly); 2 stepdaughters Kiara A. Baker Wilson and Alexis J. Walston of Chesapeake, Va; 4 grandchildren JaMonte, Ja’Niya, Jayda and Ja’Kira; 3 sisters Geneva Riddick of Philadephia, Pa, Janice Barco of Portsmouth, Va, and Sheba Broadnax (Al) of Douglasville, Ga; 2 brothers Clayton Barco (Miae) of Fayetteville, NC, Arnold Barco of Virginia Beach VA; three aunts Nora Harper of Bridgeton, NJ, Dorothy Barco of Piscataway, NJ and Francis Cook of Portsmouth, Va; 2 devoted nephews Wendell “Pacman” Barco and Clevon Barco; a devoted sister in-law Stephanie Barco; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
