Horace Cullen Story graduated with a law degree from Harvard College in 1811. He was also a veteran of the War of 1812. At the time of his death he was a lieutenant in the US Army Corp of Engineers superintending the construction of fortifications at Fort St. Philip in Plaquemine Parish, Louisiana. In the summer of 1823 he became ill with 'bilious fever' (malaria) and was rushed to New Orleans for care where he died. He is likely buried there but the location is unknown.
