Courtier and rake, nicknamed for his fabulous wealth, much of which came from his marriage of a young heiress. A certain Captain Konigsmark was jealous of the marriage and hired three ruffians to murder Thynne - the attack is displayed on his tombstone; his coach was held up in Pall Mall and he was shot. The three atackers were tried and condemned but Konigsmark was acquitted, apparently having fixed the jury.
