"Mrs. Joseph Allen, an old and esteemed resident of Brant, passed away at the home of her son, Mr. Harry Allen here, on Thursday last, from a general dissolution of the system due to the ravages of old age. Deceased was numbered with the old pioneers of the Township, and retained all the hospitality and genial ways of the early settlers. On the death of her late husband, a few years ago, she came to reside in Walkerton. She is survived by a grown-up family, of seven sons and two daughters as follows: The sons are John of Greenock, Charles and William of Toronto, Harry of Walkerton, Robt. of Sask., Ed. of Blairmore, Alta., James of Nelson, B.C., and Richard of Alberta. The daughters are Misses Carrie and Hattie Allen of Walkerton. The deceased was aged 71 years and 8 months. The funeral to the Walkerton cemetery on Sunday last was largely, attended."
