Huthaifa al-Badri (2000-2018)

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) says the son of its leader has been killed fighting Syrian government forces.

The announcement of the death of the son of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi appeared on the group's social media accounts late Tuesday, July 3, 2018. It included a picture of a young boy carrying a Pakol automatic rifle and identified him as Huthaifa al-Badri.

The statement, dated July 2018, said he was an elite fighter, known as an "inghimasi," who was killed while fighting Syrian and Russia troops at a power station in the central Homs province. It did not specify when he was killed.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitoring group, said the most recent IS operations in the area were in the first two weeks of June.

Huthaifa Al Badri was born in 2000, in the Iraqi city of Samarra*, to Bakr al-Baghdadi and Asma Fawzi Al Qubaisi, the first of the caliph’s three wives and his cousin.

Siblings: Hufaiza, Omayma, Yaman, Hasan and Fatima.

* Samarra (Arabic: سَامَرَّاء ‎ Sāmarrāʾ) is a city in Iraq. It stands on the east bank of the Tigris, in the Saladin Governorate, north of Baghdad.
