GARDEN CITY, SC - John William “Bill” Altman, 73, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

He was born in Mullins, SC on December 2, 1945 to the late William Malley Altman and Claudia Martin Herring. After marrying the love of his life Linda Hyatt on July 25, 1971, Bill served as the Chief of Police in McBee. He joined the sheet metal workers International Union #399 in Charleston and eventually settled in Aiken. For the past 20 years, Bill and Linda lived in Garden City.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Rocky (Amanda) of Chandler, AZ; a daughter, Kimberly Brown (Don) of Cincinnati, OH; grandsons, Dylan Altman of Chandler, AZ, Colin Brown and Trevor Brown of Cincinnati, OH; a brother, Marvin Altman; a sister, Emily Page, Christine Miller and Carol Ginn. In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Leroy “Ted” and WM.

Bill will be remembered as a devoted brother, father, grandfather and husband. He was an avid Atlanta Braves and University of South Carolina Gamecock fan. He loved his family and in his later years, he particularly enjoyed spending time with his youngest grandson Dylan.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, June 17, 2019 at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, June 16th at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
