James Thomas Powers, 84, beloved husband of the late Mary Beth Herring, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2019, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, after an illness.
Born on June 27, 1934, he was the son of the late Gary Powers and Olive Juanita Greer Powers. He was a member of The Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Dillon, where he played the guitar, and was always willing to help with whatever was needed. He was a retired creel operator for Dixiana Mills. He enjoyed auto mechanics and tinkering with cars, cutting grass, eating seafood, playing his guitar, spending time with his grandchildren, and attending church.
He is survived by his daughter, Janice (Billy) Bryant of Latta; sons, Wayne (Crystal) Powers of Dillon and Tommy J. (Dianne) Powers of Woodruff, SC; brothers, Rev. Jimmy (Pat) Powers of Bennettsville, Bobby (Vicky) Powers of Cary, NC, Franklin Powers of Florence, and Charles (Elizabeth) Powers of Dillon; a sister, Virginia Rowell of Temperance Hill; grandchildren Lindsay Powers, Candace Powers, Brandon Powers, Jessica Glass and Ashleigh Powers; great-grandchildren, Ayslee Powers, Eryn Glass, Aiden Powers, Maleyah Powers and Liam Powers; and by a sister-in-law, Mary Herring Powers of Dillon.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. on Monday, April 8, 2019 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Sunday at Cooper Funeral Home and any other time at the home of Wayne Powers, 236 Mt. Calvary Road in Dillon.
Mr. Powers was preceded in death by his parents and wife listed above; a son, James Ray Powers; brothers, Junior (Dorothy) Powers, Rev. Lloyd (Betty) Powers and Billy Powers; a sister, Shirley Harris.
