He was born in Crump, Tennessee on March 14, 1945, the son of the late Collins C. and Candace McGarity Bailey. On April 2, 1966, he was united in marriage to Paulette Stanford, who preceded him in death.
Robert went to Hardin County High School and was the quarterback for the Savannah Tigers in 1962 when they won the conference that year. He was a Yellow Dog Democrat, and loved to fish, gardening, woodworking, and building things. He was a pipe fitter by trade and worked for Grinell Sprinkler Fitters, and was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union Local 669 for over 50 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbra of Morris Chapel, Tennessee; grandchildren, Amy of Crestview, Florida and Michael of Morris Chapel, Tennessee; and great grandchildren, Kolton, Jayson, Connor, and Kimberlee.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence C., Kent, and John.
