Married Patrick Blewitt in 1857

Note: the 1900 census has her birth as Oct 1840, but the 1860 and 1870 censuses would make it closer to 1835 or 1837

Mrs Catherine Blewitt, wife of former mine inspector Patrick Blewitt, died last Sunday night at her home, 316 Phelps street. She had been ill for nearly two years, but her recovery was not despaired of and her death was heard of with the keenest regret by hundreds who had known and esteemed her for great goodness of heart and kindly disposition. Mrs Blewitt was 61 years of age and had been a resident of Scranton for about 40 years. For 28 years she resided in the house where she died. She is survived by the following children: Mrs Eugene Hayden of Scranton; EF Blewitt, former city engineer, who is now supervising the construction of important public work in Mexico; Mrs Norah Roche and Mrs Genevieve Gallagher of New York;the Misses Julia and Teresa Blewitt, teachers in the city schools, the misses Frances and Angela Blewitt and William Blewitt. EF Blewitt was notified by wire Saturday of the serious illness of his mother and at once started for Scranton. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed pending his arrival in the city. Mrs Blewitt was a woman of strong character and of boundless charity. It was the charity that springs from the heart which lets not the right hand know what the left does. Her good deeds were as unostentatious as her life and for them she will long be remembered by scores into whose lives she brought a ray of sunshine at a time when grief or adversity had laid a heavy hand upon them. ~Scranton (PA) Tribune, Tue 12 Feb 1901.

The funeral of the late Mrs Catherine Blewitt, wife of ex-mine inspector Blewitt, was held Saturday morning from the residence on Phelps street and was attended by a large number of the dead woman's friends and relatives. In St Peter's cathedral a solemn high mass of requiem was solemnized... The pallbearers were Dr CF Scanlon, Dr JF Saltry, Eugene Haydn, John Scanlon, JJ Scanlon and Martin Scanlon. Flower carriers: James Burke, Dr EJ Keefe, MJ Kelly, Patrick Clark, Matthew Scanlon, Thomas Clark, John R Kelly and James Downey. Interment in Cathedral cemetery. ~Scranton (PA) Tribune, Mon 18 Feb 1901.
