Carolus M. Au
May 6, 1926 – July 7, 2016
Carolus M. Au, age 90 of Monroe, joined his beloved wife in heaven, on July 7, 2016. He was born in Monroe, May 6, 1926 to Fred and Elsie (Kraehnke) Au. He spent his youth on the family farm in Wisconsin before returning to Monroe.
Family and friends may visit from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. He will lie instate at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. The church pastor, Rev. Jeffrey Heimsoth will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by VFW Post 1138, Monroe.
Carl proudly served in General Patton's Third Army in the Second World War, earning three battle stars, Ardennes –Battle of the Bulge—, Rhineland, and Central Europe. A combat infantryman, he earned the Bronze Star, Victory, and Occupation medals. Wounded three times, he was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.
Carl spent the last 10 years of his work life at North Star Steel. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member of the Lynn C Weeman American Legion Post, VFW Post 1138, Disable American Veterans, and the 94th Infantry Division Association.
Carl married Grace M. Krueger July 3, 1948. She preceded him in death on March 6, 2014. Carl was a gardener and is remembered as devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Carl is survived by sons Lonnie C. (Mary) Au of Ft. Wayne, IN and Dennis M. (Marcia) Au of Evansville, IN; sister Delores Krueger of Monroe; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Grace, he was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Palmer, Orville, and Merlin; granddaughter Catherine Emma Au, and great-granddaughter, Amanda Grace Au.
The family requests memorial donations be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.
