George "Chas" Bulina
George "Chas" Bulina entered his heavenly residence at the age of 66 on the sunny and warm day of April 27, 1991, after a short but enduring struggle with cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sandra, whom they shared a fun and happy life; daughter Bonnie (Kevin) Sypolt and grandson Joey, son Richard (Karen) Thompson and granddaughters Ashley and Melissa; daughter Rebecca (Kevin) Hoover and grandsons Jason and Justin; daughter Georgeanne (Rod) Rader and grandchildren Bethanne and Jesse; son George (Donna) Bulina and granddaughter Kelly.
George was born February 27, 1925, in Searights, Pennsylvania, to parents Charles and Bertha Bulina who emigrated from the Czechoslovakia region. He was the youngest of six siblings; brother Charlie Bulina, and sisters Marie (Kosinski), Anna (Yatzko), Barbara/Betty (Napoli), Julia Bulina, and Helen (Ozanick).
As a child, he grew up in a coal mining town. His father died while George was still in school so unfortunately he had to quit school to work and help support his mother and the remaining sisters at home. When George was 18, he served in World War II (stateside) as a chauffeur for Generals. Due to a surgery, he was unable to participate in active war. After his time served, George moved to Akron, Ohio, and lived on North Hill. He married his first wife, Delores Dadato, and they had children Rebecca, Georgeanne and George. His wife's unfortunate car accident left George a widower at a young age with three young children.
He became acquainted with the neighbors, and this is when he met the love of his life – neighbor Sandra Loretta Yester. They quickly became an item, married soon afterward and moved to Kenmore to begin their new life together.
Their lives consisted of family activities with weekends spent either with George's family in the Cleveland area, or Sandra's family in North Hill. They also filled their time playing cards (Canasta and Rook) with friends. George had a special bond with daughter Bonnie (as she was Daddy's girl). He would play games with her when little, Barbie's, cards, watch sports, practice softball, take her ice skating, or to Cleveland Indians games and doted on her when she was sick. He was always there for her and proud and excited to be able to walk her down the aisle on her wedding day!
George enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren and especially once he retired and watched grandson Joey during the day. He also liked to garden, read his bible and watch the Indians and Browns.
George retired from The Babcock & Wilcox Company with 40 years of service. During the early years of his marriage to Sandra, he also worked part time on the weekends at the Ranch Motel in Cuyahoga Falls in order to make ends meet so Sandra could stay home and raise the kids and not have to work.
George was a faithful member of Goss Memorial Church (Kenmore) and their Kings Herald bible study class. He enjoyed growing in his faith, meeting new friends and socializing in their many activities. He also financially supported The Haven of Rest Ministries in Akron.
George wasn't a big man in stature, but in the eyes of his family he was seen as a big man – due to the battle he endured with his illness. To the end, he was more concerned about his family than himself.
Friends may call at the Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd., TODAY from 2 – 4:00 p.m. and 7 – 9:00 p.m. Service will be held at Goss Memorial Church on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Carl Blackburn officiating, interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, George wished for donations be made to the Goss Memorial Building Fund or to their Missionary Fund. (Bacher, 644-0024).
