Mildred F. Cleveland
Mildred F. Cleveland, 87, of Tacoma, WA, and formerly of Caldwell, died Friday, March 10, 2000 at Tacoma of natural causes. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2000 at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. A viewing will be held at Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mildred was born in Coffeeville, Kansas, on May 2, 1912. She spent her adult life in Washington, California and Idaho. She and her husband, Fred Cleveland, were snowbirds for many years after his retirement from the Aberdeen Fire Department and from Rocketydyne in Canoga Park, California. They enjoyed the mild winters of the Palm Springs area and spent their summers in the Northwest fishing, clamming, and visiting. For many years she was a resident of Tacoma, Washington, where she was an active member of the Ruston Senior Center. She also attended the senior center in Caldwell, where she was also a resident for many years, before her return to Tacoma in 1999. No matter where she was living, she frequently attended the Wise Family Picnic, which is held at South Lewis County Park on the second Sunday in August every year.
Mildred is survived by her children, Roger, Fred, Carol, and a stepchild, Ivan; seven grandchildren, Mark, Marty, Robert, and John Cleveland, Sandy Griffin, Elizabeth Statz, and Joellen Gorden; 10 great-grandchildren, Derek, Michael, Amanda, and Kathleen Cleveland, Breanne and Caitlin Griffin, Emily Kowald, Harley Gorden, Joe and Maggie Statz; a great-great-grandchild, Elyssa Kowald; many nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred I. Cleveland; and her son, Tom Cleveland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Salvation Army and the American Diabetes Association.
