The Scotch-Irish of Northampton Co. PA. Vol I pub 1926 by Northampton Co. Historical & Genealogical Society: "James McKeen was for a longer or shorter period, during his early life, identified with the Irish Settlement. We believe he studied for a time in the Old Academy. The greater portion of his life was spent at South Easton, PA., where he resided until his death in 1871. He was an elder in the Brainerd Presbyterian church of Easton from its organization in 1854, and paid one-half of the original cost of the church building and contributed largely to its support. He was for many years, (1852-1871, a generous trustee of Lafayette College. The central dormitory building of the college, erected at a cost of $25,000.00 bears his name. He was thrice married. His first wife was a sister of Mr. Levi Bennet, we believe, of Easton. Their children were Major Thomas L. and Elizabeth. His second wife was ---- Armstrong. Their children were Helen and Sarah. His third wife was Eliza Craig who is deceased without descendants.
