Harry Mohler was born in Upper Allen Township, Cumberland Co., on December 7, 1837 and and after having received a public school education, engaged in farming, which he left to enter the army, enlisting in Battery C, The Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery on September 20, 1862. He was promoted from private to 2nd Lieut. and assigned to Co. C, 4th U.S.C. Infantry, Oct 14, 1864, brevetted Captain, Mar 17, 1865. He participated in many battles - Cold Harbor, Petersburg, where he was wounded in the Battle of the Crater, Deep Bottom, New Market Heights, and the first and second attacks on Fort Fisher, where he was again wounded. He was in the hospital when the war ended. After the war, he was appointed Surveyor and Gauger for the Internal Revenue Service. Later, he was in the insurance business in Mechanicsburg, PA.

On Feb 26, 1861, Harry S Mohler and Miss Eliza Ann Byers of Rosstown, York Co., were united in marriage. To this union are the following children: Mrs. Lincoln Holler of Harrisburg, M. Grant Mohler and Mrs Geary Brenner of Mechanicsburg; A. B. Mohler and J. Frank Mohler, of Mexico City, Mexico.
