Daughter of George Hyer Davis, one of the early coal operators of Carbon County, PA, and granddaughter of Samuel Philip Holland of Wilkes-Barre, PA, a large coal operator and one of the 1st presidents of the old Pennsylvania Oil Company.

In 1856, Emily married Dr. Henry R. Linderman, director of the US Mint, about whom much has been written. He died of rapid consumption in Washington, DC, in 1879, and was buried in Nisky Hill Cemetery in Bethlehem, PA, with his parents Dr. John J. Linderman and Rachel Brodhead Linderman.

Emily died in Newark at the home of her son (and only child) Henry R. Linderman, Jr.
