KNOD Radio - Harlan, Iowa - Mass of Christian Burial for 83 year old Kathryn Kay Schechinger of Harlan will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, January 22nd at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan with burial at the St. Boniface Cemetery in Westphalia. Kathryn passed away Sunday, January 16th, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan. Survivors include her children Patricia Snyder and husband John of Pleasant Hill, Jay Schechinger and wife Cindy of Westphalia, Carol Masker and husband Patrick of Minden, Kenny Schechinger and wife Kate of Harlan and Dave Schechinger and wife Ann of Kansas City, MO; 1 sister, Jolene Wetmore of Council Bluffs and 14 grandchildren. The Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan is in charge of the arrangements.

Jim L. Schechinger, son of Mike and Annabel Schechinger, was born October 16, 1935 in Westphalia.
He graduated with the St Boniface class of 1953. On January 14, 1961, he married Kay Stangl (b.5/13/1938) daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Stangl of Neola. Jim is a Marine Corps veteran from 1955~1957, and when he returned home from the service he began fanning. Kay is a 1959 graduate of the Mercy School of Nursing.
Children:
Patricia (b.8/2/1961), married John Snyder, children: Kayla and John III;
Jay (b.12/7/1962), married Cindy Hughes;
Carol (b.6/6/1965), married Darrell Fisher, child: Tyler;
Ken (b.9/22/1967); and
Dave (b.7/21/1970), married Ann Gonner.
Prior to his death on January 22, 1990, Jim had served on the boards of the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company, Westphalia Coop and the Shelby County Pork Producers. Kay is employed at the Baptist Memorial Home in Harlan.
