Marie is the daughter of Michel François Alliouz-Luguet (an actor) and Thérèse Joséphine Sextidi Bénéfand (a dancer). She married (1) Pierre Laurent ( -1852), and they had two children. She married (2) Maurice Bénite in 1859.

She took part in the defense of Paris in 1870-1871 by founding and directing an ambulance at Porte Saint-Martin.

She was an actress and performed in may theaters. She founded the Orphelinat des Arts which opened in October 1880, in Vanves to give young girls aged five to eighteen an artistic education.
