He was the son of Robert H. Wells and Lucinda Ann Gladden Wells. He married Mary F. Farris in 1861. His date of birth on his tombstone is 1838 and his date of birth from his mothers bible is July 17, 1839. His middle name appears as Holland on his death certificate.
