Austin H. Felch.
Austin H. Felch, a resident for years of our county, died Tuesday evening last, at the home east of the city. Mr. Felch had been sick for several years. He had suffered several strokes and gradually failed.
He was born in Fitzwilliam, N. H., December 19, 1850. In 1862 he came west with Col Bryant to Wisconsin. He drove to this state some years later and lived in the home of David Pratt. When only twenty-one years of age, he bought eighty acres of land south of Varco. Here he made a good start in farming life. He sold this land and it is now owned by Chris. Hanson. He bought the old Dr. Dorr farm nine miles east of [this section doesn't make sense]was born May 6, 1862, in Winneshiek [end odd section] married Susan Anette Powers. They sold this fine farm and bought their present home a few miles east which has since been the home.
Five children were born to them, one daughter, Susan, died in March, 1872. He is survived by his wife and four children, Frank E. of this city, Mrs. Callie Waugh of Palermo, N. D., Geo. W. of Shevlin, and Oscar on the home farm. Also two brothers, John and Frank of Winchedon, Mass., and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Blodgett of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, and Mrs. Abbie Poole of Worcester, Mass.
Mr. Felch was a good farmer and a hardworking man. He thought of his family and made a good home for them.
The funeral was held from the home at 1:30 Sunday afternoon, and interment at Rose Creek cemetery.
