Operatic soprano with a powerful, highly dramatic voice. Educated in Poland, she moved to Italy where she married the famous conductor Tullio Serafin. From 1910 to 1930 she had a successful career at Teatro La Scala, Milan, including singing the role of Basiliola in the world premiere of Italo Montemezzi's opera "La Nave" on November 3, 1918. From 1924 to 1928 she sang regularly at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and from 1927 to 1930 she was a member of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, especially noted for her performances there as Brünnhilde in "Siegfried". Later in her career, she worked as a singing/voice teacher in Rome, Italy. She is buried next to her husband, Maestro Serafin, and their daughter Vittoria, in his hometown of Cavarzere, Italy.
