FLOOD, LESLIE , 85 of Wickford, died June 8, 2011 at Kent County Hospital in Warwick.
Mr. Flood was born in New York City, NY to the late Leslie and Madeline Flox Flood.
He attended the Tome School in Port Deposit MD, Manhassettt High School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1948 and maintained membership in the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.
He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy and saw active duty in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He then returned to forge a successful professional career that included positions in the Citi Service Corporation and Hutton Publishing Company as well as ownership of the Wickford Shellfish Company.
Mr. Flood was predeceased by just three weeks by his wife of over sixty years, Muriel R. (Keema) Flood.
Mr. Flood leaves behind a rich legacy of political and community service. He was a cofounder of the Wayland MA Swimming and Tennis Club, a Past-president of the Poplar Point Association, a founding member and Past-commodore of the Wickford Yacht Club, a past-president of the Westminster Unitarian Church in East Greenwich RI, a past member of the Board of Directors of Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, and a leader in the Cocumscussoc Association that preserves historic Smith Castle in North Kingstown RI.
He was also an active member of the Republican Party at the local and state level.
His special honors include the 2000 Award for Outstanding Program Sales for Home and Hospice Care, the 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Republican Party and with his wife Muriel, the 1995 Albert Henry Lifetime Community Service Award from the Wickford Yacht Club.
He is survived by a sister, a daughter, a son, a granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by his brother, Harry Flood.
